This year's Winter Hike Series will kick off with a hike to a small village that once existed within the Brown County State Park boundaries. With the holidays coming, this trek will pay a visit to this area in search of remnants of Kelp Village, imagining what the holidays would have been like in the hills of Brown County over 100 years ago.

Celebrate the new year at the Brown County State Park on the always popular First Day Park Hike! New for 2020, the park will close off a section of the road just for first hike festivities. Take a relaxing New Year's Day hike along a scenic vista loop with different stations set up along the way. Enjoy the amazing vista views from four different vistas! You can run, walk, or ride anytime between 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Winter Hike Series: Hike to the Lake that Never Was

Head over to the Nature Center to meet for this exciting winter hike! The Hike to the Lake that Never Was will take you along Horse Trail B, descending into Hidden Valley and to the Taylor hollow dam site. This hike will be quite rugged and includes several creek crossings. The distance will be approximately two miles round trip, and will take 1.5 hours to complete. Please dress for the weather and creek crossings!

Don't miss out on this cool winter hike! This trek will take you a short distance down Horse Trail A before breaking off trail towards one of the most beautiful places in the park. The distance for this hike is approximately two miles round trip and will last about 1.5 hours. This hike is a bit rugged. Meet for this hike at the Nature Center before carpooling to the trailhead.

Winter Hike Series: CCC Ruins/Deserter’s Cave Hike

Starting at the Nature Center, the journey will start by heading south along the park road to the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp area. Explore the ruins of this camp area before heading back to the road. Then, you will trek into the woods, off trail to Deserter's Cave. This section of off-trail hiking will be rugged and steep. The hike is a little over an hour, and about two miles in distance with some tougher terrain.

Winter Hike Series: Curious Quarry Hike

Get ready for the fun curious quarry hike! This hike is four miles and 2.5 hours long. The hike will take you along Horse Trail A for about 1.5 miles, then on to another trail for another 0.5 miles. The trail can be quite rugged and sloppy, so please bring your hiking boots and be prepared for a good trek. Spend some time exploring the quarry area before heading back to the trailhead.

Winter Hike Series: 10 O’Clock Line Nature Preserve Hike

On this cool winter hike, you'll head out along a fire trail towards the 10 O'Clock Line Nature Preserve. This is the largest nature preserve in the state and has quite the unique story. After about one mile on the fire trail, you'll meet up with Horse Trail B for a hike around the Nature Preserve. The distance for this hike is approximately 2.5 miles, and will last about two hours. This hike is moderately rated.
