Morel Mushroom Festival

Head out to the Brown County State Park Nature Center on Saturday, May 7 for a fun day celebrating spring’s beloved morels! There will be a morel mushroom sale with over 100 pounds of morels available for purchase, along with a naturalist talk and hikes focused on those amazing fungi.
The mushroom sale will be first come, first serve and the mushrooms will go quick! Mushrooms are priced at $60 a pound, or $30 for half a pound. Cash or check only. Make out checks to the Friends of Brown County State Park. There will be a 2 pound limit per customer for each trip through the line. If the line is short, jump back in for another 2 pounds!
Schedule of Events
10am, Mushroom Sale:
11am – 11:30am, Mushroom Talk: Join a park naturalist for a discussion on edible mushrooms in Brown County State Park. Learn about how they grow, how to identify species, and where they are likely to be found!
2pm – 2:45pm, Discovery Trail Hike: Join a park naturalist for a short guided hike of the Discovery Trail. Keep your eyes on the ground as we look for wildflowers and mushrooms to identify. The Discovery Trail is one half mile in length and considered moderate. There are some slopes and uneven surfaces. Close toed shoes are recommended.
3:30pm – 4:30pm, Ogle Hollow Hike: Join a park naturalist for a guided hike of Trail 5 through the Ogle Hollow Nature Preserve. We’ll keep our eyes on the ground as we search for wildflowers and mushrooms to identify. Trail 5 is three quarters of a mile in length and considered rugged. The trail has slopes, some uneven surfaces, and creek crossings. Close toed shoes are recommended.
