B3 Gallery Hosts Barn Quilts by Vicki Howarth
July 24 - August 19Free
B3 Gallery is hosting a special exhibit of Barn Quilts by Vicki Howarth. An artist’s reception will be held on July 26 from 4-7 p.m. A barn quilt is a pattern either directly painted on a barn or on a board attached to a structure. Barn quilts may evoke memories; honor Grandma’s quilt pattern; honor family, community or country heritage, patriotism, trade, culture; or draw a passerby’s eye to a historic structure. Howarth’s barn quilts combine her artistic and technical talents with her love for rural Indiana.
Ms. Howarth says her appreciation for rural life began in childhood, growing up near her grandfather’s farm in Northern Indiana. She says, “My grandfather raised chickens and farmed an organic garden. I was frequently in grandpa’s barn playing and exploring, or helping in the garden.” Ms. Howarth has a technical graphics degree from Purdue University.
