Bill Bateman worked as a professional artist in New York City for many years before relocating to Brown County. Painting in a surreal style, Bateman says his work relies on the viewer’s subconscious associations to complete the painting. Each viewer’s personal experiences and psychological reactions will influence what is seen in the image.
In addition to painting Bateman has created a series of patterned photographs. After isolating a small detail from a photograph he uses software to create a kaleidoscopic image. He enjoys taking close up photographs of overlooked details, and first got the idea of creating the pattern images after photographing the rusty surfaces of large culverts that had been excavated.
Show is open during regular business hours, Wednesday thru Sunday, 10a.m. – 5 p.m. Bateman’s studio is located on the third floor of the building and additional work can be seen by appointment.
