Soaring, Public Art with Social Impact

June 12, 2014

The Nashville Arts and Entertainment Commission has partnered with Elder Heart, a Veteran’s Organization that does community and private projects to raise awareness for the 22 veteran suicides that occur every day, to build an 18 foot leaf sculpture.

The sculpture, “Soaring” is being created with the guidance of Jim Connor, a respected local artist, and the work of Southern Indiana Veterans.

The swirling leaves represent fall leaves, driven skyward by a sudden wind. These leaves are not only an iconic symbol of Brown County, but also represent Arts Village Brown County and Elder Heart rising together, bonded by community to reach their dreams.

This project will be the first of many for Elder Heart.. “To be able to watch and listen as our Veterans and our Visitors share stories has been an incredible experience. It has already touched so many,” commented Jane Ellis, Executive Director, Brown County Convention and Visitors Bureau “Brown County is honored to be home to their first art installation of this scale”

Construction is under way and scheduled for completion by fall 2014.
