A great weekend escape, Winter in the Woods is the perfect opportunity to get away from it all. Break up the winter monotony and embrace the brisk air, scenic surroundings, and quaint charm of Brown County instead. Pick and choose from several activities both indoors and outdoors to create an experience that’s memorable and all your own!
A weekend packed full of events, Winter in the Woods is all about relaxing, recharging, and of course, having some fun! From a hike and trail run to yoga, wellness, drinks, and more, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
A must-do during Winter in the Woods is the Winter Hike on January 14. Lace up those hiking boots and hit the trails in the beautiful Brown County State Park on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Don’t worry about the cool temperatures, there will be plenty of hot chocolate and s’mores to warm you up along the way thanks to local Boy Scout Troop 190. The cost for this event is only $1 plus State Park gate fees. Trail will be self-guided and easy to moderate in nature.
Both before and after the Winter Hike, food will be served at the Little Gem Restaurant at the Abe Martin Lodge. Enjoy Breakfast with the Naturalists beginning at 7 a.m., as well as a Hiker's Lunch Buffet from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Wanting something a little more laid back? Trade in the rugged terrain for a leisurely walk and some wine during the Salt Creek Sip N’ Stroll on January 14 and 15. Sample a few wines at Salt Creek Winery before taking an easy two-mile stroll along the Salt Creek Trail. Remember your favorite vino and enjoy a glass when you return! Up for a challenge? Test your endurance and take in the view during the Frosty Trails 5 Mile Run (or walk) on January 14. Winding its way up, down, and around the hills and hollers in the Brown County State Park, this is one 5.2-mile race course you won’t forget. Sponsored by INTIMECO Productions and Quaff ON! Brewing Company, the Frosty 5 begins at 10:30 a.m. After the run, participants are welcome to warm up in the shelter house with food, drinks, and a fire. Maybe yoga is more your speed. Well there’s plenty of that during Winter in the Woods too! Reward yourself after a late morning yoga class on Sunday, January 15 with a pint of the local craft brew. After an hour and a half of yoga at the Big Busted Bar, enjoy a tall glass of tasty Big Woods beer. Yoga on Tap is from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and costs $20 to attend. Whether it’s beer or whiskey, relaxing is easy with a cocktail in hand. Learn how to create the perfect drink at Warm Up with Whiskey on Saturday, January 14 at Out of the Ordinary Restaurant and Bar. Wilks & Wilson will show you how to make mouth-watering winter cocktails using Bear Wallow Distillery's own bourbon! Appetizers will be provided as well. Warm Up with Whiskey starts at 3:30 p.m. The cost to attend is $25 and includes instruction, materials, a cocktail, appetizers, and a glass to take home. Pre-registration is preferred. Stick around after the class for a free swing dancing lesson at 5:30 p.m. After an hour of basic swing instruction the floor will open up for dancing! All ages are welcome to take part in the swing dance festivities free of charge.
Immerse yourself in total tranquility during the weekend-long Winter Bliss Wellness Retreat. Get inspired and nurture your whole being with woodland walks, fireside contemplation, and over a dozen wellness offerings including yoga, mindfulness, sound healing, relationship building, creative arts, and play! Spend Saturday afternoon enjoying art, aromatherapy, and tea in the heart of the Village at The Robinwood Studio.
