Brown County Hosts 5th Annual Create It With Gingerbread Log Cabin Competition
October 27, 2014
Looking for an opportunity to combine your culinary and artistic skills in a fun way that is guaranteed to get you in the mood for the upcoming holiday season? Look no further than the 5th annual Create it with Gingerbread Log Cabin Competition, which will be held at the Brown County Inn, 51 State Road 46 East Nashville, IN on November 22. All structures will remain on display after the competition from November 23 – December 6.
Proceeds from this event will benefit Mother’s Cupboard, a local food pantry located in Bean Blossom, IN. Mother’s Cupboard currently serves approximately 180 to 200 families each and every day. The Gingerbread Committee encourages the public to become involved in this event and build a gingerbread house to benefit those in need.
The competition has three categories of entry this year: Adult (18 years and older), Student (8 to 18 years of age), and Family. Judging of the log cabins will take place on November 22, with an awards ceremony at 6 p.m.
Entries will be judged on originality and overall appearance; use of material and technique; decoration; construction; and difficulty. Extra points will be awarded for individual log cabin construction. Except for the 18 square inch base, entries must be constructed only and entirely of edible materials (not limited to sweets).
The exhibit of gingerbread cabins will be open November 23 - December 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission for the exhibit is free. Visitors are encouraged to take part by placing their vote for the People's Choice Award during this time. Awards will also be given for Best of Show, Best Interior, and First and Second Place in each category.
The entry date for participants is November 22. Online registration and details for participation, as well as the exhibit, are available at www.createitwithgingerbread.com.
