About TC Steele State Historic Site
Discover this hidden gem of Brown County! Attracted by its natural beauty, famed Hoosier Group impressionist artist Theodore C. Steele (1847-1926) was the first major artist to settle in Brown County, now the “Art Colony of the Midwest”.
The TC Steele State Historic Site offers regularly scheduled tours year round of Steele's painting-filled studio and home. Visitors may enjoy original artwork year round while touring Steele's home and studio. Examples of Steele's artwork rotate.
The House of the Singing Winds boasts original furnishings and a unique view of Indiana life of a century past. Visitors can enjoy the sites 211-acre grounds, including restored historic gardens, the historic Dewar Log Cabin, five hiking trails, and the 92 acre Selma N. Steele State Nature Preserve. Admission fee for building tours; grounds and trails are free.

T.C. Steele State Historic Site is open Tuesday-Saturday, 9am-5pm, and Sunday 1-5pm. Tours are every hour on the quarter hour, beginning at 9:15am Tues-Sat, 1:15pm on Sunday. Final tours of the day begin at 4:15pm. The site is closed Mondays and most holidays. Open on Fourth of July, Memorial Day and Labor Day.

April 10, 2016: Sunday at Home, 2-4:30pm.
A talk and book signing on the new Gustave Baumann book given by Martin Krause of the IMA, with a printmaking demo by printmaker Leslie Dolin.

May 21, 2016: The 17th Annual Festival of Flowers PaintOut, 7am-4pm.
June 4, 2016: Studio Centennial Party, 12-4pm.
Celebrate the 100th birthday of Steele's Large Studio with a storyteller from Storytelling Arts of Indiana, birthday cake and ice cream, a book signing by Rachel Berenson Perry of the re-released The House of the Singing Winds, and a performance by cast members from "The Breeze Bends the Grass."
September 10, 2016: The 28th Annual Great Outdoor Art Contest, 7am-4pm.
October 7 & 8, 2016: T.C. Steele's Bloomington
This project made possible by generous grants from the Indiana Arts Commission, the Brown County Community Foundation, and the Friends of T.C. Steele State Historic Site. "T.C. Steele's Bloomington" is a two day art and education event in Bloomington celebrating Steele as Indiana University's first Artist in Residence.
