About Stone Head
This historic mile marker was created in 1851 by Henry Cross. Cross, farmer and part-time tombstone carver, was committed to improving the roads in Brown County. He chiseled three stone direction markers, and the statue at Stone Head is the only one still fully intact. Though Stone Head was never technically a town, the area had a grocery store and flourmill named after it.
The House at Stone Head has been renovated and is now a tourist rental. Click Here to learn more about the history of the Statue and the House at Stone Head.
