Special Exhibit at the Brown County Art Guild - Guild Blooms

'Present Blooms' will feature Guild Artist Members' work in florals, from still life to landscape. 'Past Blooms' will feature hand-picked selections from the Guild's permanent collection. Stay tuned for special events and a workshop in conjunction with this exhibit!

Spring Into Art

Brown County Historical Society will have a local art show May 25-26. On Friday, May 25, enjoy a Brown County Winery wine tasting, followed by a piano concert, featuring Dr. Jihyun Kim and Dr. Mark DeZwaan, accomplished pianists from Indiana University. On Saturday, May 26, local artists will be showcasing their art. Art will be for sale and some artists will be demonstrating their talents.

Introduction to Mixed Media Assemblage

Get creative with a variety of shapes, colors, and media while you make a one-of-a-kind mini masterpiece! This class begins by creating unique shapes, affixing metal to them, then etching designs onto the metal surface. Then, you'll use colorful inks to apply a blend of colors. Combine these metal creations with wire, beads, stones, and other items to create your very own one-of-a-kind mixed media piece. All supplies are included, but feel free to bring any special treasures you might want to include in your piece. Class size is limited, so please pre-register to hold your spot!

40th Annual Indiana Heritage Arts Annual Exhibition and Sale

This is a juried fine art exhibition and sale. Entries will include oil and acrylic paintings, pastels, watercolors, etchings and drawings by over 130 of Indiana's finest artists. Many of the works are rendered in the style of the early Brown County artists. This exhibit lasts only three weeks and admission is free. Paint and Petals

Following in the tradition of Brown County Floral painters, the Brown County Art Gallery is celebrating “Paint and Petals” – a collaboration of gardeners and flower arrangers showing off their artistic skills in a competition while members of the Brown County Art Association present a special collection of floral paintings. Sponsors include Backyard Greenhouse, Designscape, and HFI.

John Michael Carter Workshop

John Michael Carter, one of America's finest figural painters, is bringing his extensive teaching skills to the Brown County Art Gallery, July 12-14. During this intense figural workshop, students will be drawing from live models. Workshop hours are daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be held in the Stevens Art Education Studio.

Introduction to Mandala Art

Roughly translated Mandala means circle. These repetitive patterns are found in nature in biology, physics, geology, chemistry, and astrology. Many cultures use the mandala as a spiritual symbol, and creating mandalas is also used as art therapy. Making a mandala is a soothing process that can be enjoyed by anyone. Cost includes all supplies and a mat for framing your piece. Class size is limited, so pre-register to hold your spot.

Oil Painting Plein Air/Studio Workshop with Bill Farnsworth

Bill Farnsworth will teach a four-day oil painting Plein air/studio workshop this summer! For two days students will paint on location Plein air and two days in the studio. In the field, Bill will show students how to choose, edit, and capture the essence of a scene. Back in the studio, students will work from studies and photos. Strong emphasis will be on good values, shapes, and color temperature.

30th Annual Great Outdoor Art Contest

Head to the 30th Annual Great Outdoor Art Contest and experience the tradition of plein air painting as registered artists paint on the T.C. Steele State Historic Site grounds. Part of Art Colony Weekend. Enjoy painting demonstrations, a live concert, a beer garden, and lunch too!

Award winning painter, Patricia Rhoden Bartels’ painting demonstrations focus on the beauty of spring’s palette visible at the Brown County State Park and TC Steele Historic Site. Her paintings connect Brown County’s art history to the State Park Spring Foray and Historic site Earth Day celebrations. Children paint along on two occasions interpreting Spring as she emphasizes environmental issues.

Interpreting Realty - Carolyn Anderson Workshop

Learn to interpret and see visual information in a new and interesting way! Carolyn’s teaching is based on years of experience explaining how to interpret edges, color temperature, and shapes, and learning how to recognize patterns and make comparisons. Her goal is to empower artists to look and see a little differently and be able to expand their own personal expression. Instruction will be in oils and the class is primarily for the intermediate to advanced painter.
