Located in southern Indiana, just one hour south of Indianapolis, Brown County & Nashville are surrounded by rolling hills and heavily wooded areas. These features have helped shape what is now the county’s character... In 1907, drawn by the natural beauty of the county, T.C. Steele, a well known and educated artist, moved from Indianapolis and built a home and studio in southern Brown County. He encouraged other artists to join him, and soon Nashville was known as a gathering place for artists, becoming known as the “Art Colony of the Midwest.” Due to the popularity of the artists and the visitors they attracted, small shops, lodging facilities, and restaurants soon opened in Nashville, catering to a broader audience, as well as those seeking the solitude of the rural landscape. Brown County has everything it takes for fun outdoor recreation, unique gatherings, a girlfriends getaway, a romantic retreat, or any other event with family and friends.
